Glenn Greenwald: Orlando nightclub shooting not motivated by anti-gay sentiments

I have on (DSI) often referred to the Orlando terrorist attack in 2016, so it’s important to mention this new article from Greenwald:

The Enduring False Narrative About the PULSE Massacre Shows the Power of Media Propaganda

Greenwald refers to Melissa Jeltsen who wrote:

“Mateen may very well have been homophobic. He supported ISIS, after all, and his father, an FBI informant currently under criminal investigation, told NBC that his son once got angry after seeing two men kissing. But whatever his personal feelings, the overwhelming evidence suggests his attack was not motivated by it.”

My arguments here on DSI are not weakened by Greenwald setting the record straight. Because I just claim that 1) LGBT triggers intense disgust in many radical cultural conservatives, especially in traditional non-Western cultures that have not the last 20-50 years been subjected to LGBT propaganda, cf Primetime Propaganda by Ben Shapiro, 2) disgust can lead to violence when it neutralizes empathy, and 3) disgust alone is rarely a sufficient cause of terrorism but it can contribute to terrorism in combination with other political grievances.

But some individuals experience disgust more strongly than other people, so even today one cannot exclude the possibility that also Western rightwing (bio)terrorists will be (partly) motivated by anti-gay sentiments, as seen in 1999:
